Death Mask Inaugural 2021
October 30th - November 30th, 2021
A “death mask” is known to some in Western cultures as an artistic tool for post-mortem portraiture and bust production. Take a brief glimpse at various places around the world throughout time, however, and you can find different iterations of masks that relate to the concept of death. Death as a character, death as a symbol, death as transformation, death as a journey or death as a destination. Death Mask, Underland Gallery’s inaugural group exhibition, invokes the age-old concept through the work of eighteen artists of varying disciplines and foundations. Their interpretations invite you to dive into the mythos, imagination and darkness. To celebrate the shadows, to celebrate what lies in the Underland.
